In April 1927, the Pentecostal evangelist and Elim founder, George Jeffreys conducted several crusades in Paisley town hall which attracted crowds of over 2000 over many days. At the time, the town hall was the largest hall in Scotland and so the crusade attracted a lot of media attention. Following the crusade, an Elim church existed in the town for a few years. The church came into being as a result of another crusade in the Town Hall led by Alexander Tee in 1959. God did amazing things in those meetings and written accounts from the time talk about various miraculous healings and many people committing their lives to God.

Weekly Sunday services began in the local YMCA until the church purchased a site in Wellmeadow Street for £375! Through much sacrificial giving by the church, the new building was officially opened on Sunday 16 September 1961.
